Understanding the Lorcana Inkwell
In Ravensburger's Disney Lorcana TCG, resource management centers around the Inkwell. Players can place one card from their hand into their inkwell face-down once per turn to generate "Ink" mana to play characters, items, and actions.
However, not all cards can be placed into the inkwell. Cards featuring a swirling inkwell border around their cost icon are Inkable. Cards with a plain cost icon are Non-Inkable.
The Non-Inkable Deckbuilding Trap
Non-inkable cards often possess powerful game-winning effects (such as high-lore characters or board-clearing songs). However, drawing a hand full of non-inkable cards early in a game causes your resource curve to stall—leaving you unable to build your inkwell past 2 or 3 ink.
Recommended Deck Ratios
Competitive Lorcana decks follow strict inkable ratios:
- Maximum Non-Inkables: 12 to 16 non-inkable cards in a 60-card deck (20% – 25% max).
- Ideal Inkable Ratio: 44 to 48 inkable cards (75% – 80%).
Turn Curve Strategy Tips
- Mulligan Aggressively: If your opening hand contains 3 or more non-inkable cards, mulligan them back into your deck to guarantee smooth early turn inkwell building.
- Ink Duplicate High-Cost Cards Early: In early turns, place high-cost 6-ink or 7-ink characters into your inkwell so you can curve out your 2-ink and 3-ink characters on time.
